Crowes CD Bootlegs

Again, this is far from being a complete list. Include CD title, location of
recording, manufacturer, song list, and quality rating- Poor, G, VG EX.
An EXcellent rating must be a soundboard recording or equivalent. An
EX+ rating is reserved only for recordings that are studio-quality. A
Good rating is an above-average audience bootleg- may be interruptions
in show and fading of music. VeryGood has no break in music or fading in
and out during songs, but may not be soundboard-like quality. Voices and
instruments must be clearly audible on a VG bootleg- usually a recording
using multiple microphones or it is a low-quality copy of a soundboard
recording. In general, I don't recommend purchasing bootleg CDs if the
sound quality is below VG.

This list is for informational purposes only, and it is not a personal
collection, so please do not inquire about copies or trades. For beginning
music collectors, try the following:

Post a message on one of the Crowes Message Boards (See Links)

Find a local record store that has import CDs (no chain stores!)

Go to record collector/music shows in your area

Look for music trade magazines such as Goldmine in a music
or bookstore.

Early Crowes shows pretty much stuck to a basic set-list of songs
with one or two songs rotating in and out of the list. Later on they
would experiment more with the song lists during concerts, sometimes
even omitting Hard To Handle from a show, which was almost
always played live in their pre-ZZ Top days. The CD Bootleg "New
York 1990" also has this same soundtrack, but the setlist does not
entirely match up from the Marquee on Jun 21 1990- the band did not
play "She Talks To Angels" that night for example, and often "Kick
The Devil Outta Me" is left off the bootleg CDs.

of new material (at the time), including track (9) which may

A memorable show-stopper by Chris when he halts the show
and scolds some MTV-posers near the front of the stage for
getting out of hand. No country is present on the CD- again
most likely Italy or some European place due to the obvious
mis-spellings.

Track 6 is spelled "Thorn In My Side"

It appears this is the same show as the cd bootleg "The
Southern Gig" from Louisana in Feb. 1993.

to be omitted (5th song played).

This is not a good quality CD bootleg by previous Crowes
standards. Recommended for collectors only.

This import CD is horribly innaccurate in lots of areas,
starting with the song names:

Mercenary Man- should be "This Ain't No Election"

Karl the Psychic- should be "Carolyn's Psychic"

Medicine- should be "Slap Of Fate"

Redneck Blues- should be "Gravedigger Blues"

The Long Day- should be "Front Porch Sermon"

Chapel Hill is in North Carolina (NC), not New York City (NYC)

In addition, most of the songs are of poor quality- better
than an audience bootleg but still poor by studio standards.
Also a lot of tracks are simply pirated from other performances.
Tracks 12-13 are from the MTV Unplugged broadcast in 3/91.
Tracks 17-18 have been taken from a previous performance
I swear I've heard before but I can't place where it was from
at the moment.

On the positive side, this is the only bootleg CD I know of that
has early Mr. Crowes Garden songs available.

The Oklahoma City show was broadcast live, so there
are probably many good-quality bootlegs of this show circulating.

A review by a fan:

The Living Legend version of that show that you have listed is an inferior version. It is mono, and although all the songs are there, all of the chatter between songs has been cut, as has the beginning of Twice As Hard. It is also a disgustingly cheap package. This show is available in much better quality, and is more complete on the 2CD sets "On A Good Day" and "Return Of Big Toe".

Comments: A must have. Not only is the sound quality perfect, the performances of My Morning Song, Thorn, and Remedy are most likely the best ever. An edit in Thorn has resulted in the absence of the first verse. Tracks 6&7 are listed as Unplugged 92, but are just the well circulated 90 performances. Sometimes Salvation is excellent, my question is where is the rest of this great performance. Twice As Hard is making its first appearence on CD. The Amsterdam material makes me remember why I love this band so damn much. A simply incredible performance.

The "Jealous Guy" is the same version that on the B-side of the "Twice as hard" singles that I have. (PHCR-8009 & DEFAC 7) They say its from a Westwood One Radio show, I believe.
