Marc Ford played lead guitar on six of the ten new songs from Chicago-based Americana/soul/folk rock band Flame Shark's new album "Farm Life." He flew from California, Les Paul in hand, fuzz pedals stuffed into a backpack, arrived at the studio, pulled out six or seven amps, including two Marshall stacks, a crusty old Gibson drenched with tremelo, and even a little Sears model built in the 50s.
The session at Chicago's Engine Studio lasted 15 hours, went into the wee hours of the morning and produced some fuzzed-out, blissful, joyous, heartbreaking guitar lines. The album is being mixed now and will be available spring of 2010.
Flame Shark, according to author Mark Steinbuck "sounds like Rod Stewart drugging out on psychedelic pineapples, you see them through the neon reds and blues, and they resemble the chipped brick walls and crumpled newspapers more than a band tonight...not even the rats cross their path anymore." They've been compared to The Jayhawks, The Cash Brothers, Air, Wilco, The Shins and many more, but their soulful Americana sound is uniquely their own, one footed planted in their native Southlands, the other in Chicago's dirtiness and energy.
The album is available for pre-order for a very limited time at: flamesharkmusic.com
