I don't mean to be so sarcastic but CR has been making increasingly disappointing music over the past decade. I won't say that' Barefoot in the Head' has turned that around but I will say that a few tracks are maybe slowing down the descent into insipid rambling drivel jamband monotony

I would skip the first four tracks completely and never ever go back to them.

Start with 'Blonde Light of Morning' probably the best tune on the record. The lyrics aren't heinous and the melody is pure and lovely. 'Dog Eat Sun' is also a solid number.

Forget the next few tracks and go straight to 'If You Had A Heart to Break' . Could be a bitter tune directed towards Dad or Brother or ex Wives (or any number of haters) but maybe not. Either way it's decent. Glow is more Psychedelia from Captain Cannibus but it's not awful.

Last Track is definitely a winner. 'Good to Know' is a good song that makes sense. I could nitpick the hackneyed 'Stars, Sun, Sky Cosmos' bit but I'll accept it. I could see myself listening to this song if it pops up on shuffle.

I know the CRB get a hell of a bad time on this board, but i still like a lot of their output. Yes the hippy dippy cosmic American bullshit is a bit tiresome, and McDougall should be strung up from the nearest post, but i really like the new album. 'Blue Star Woman' is horrid, but 'If You Had A Heart To Break', 'Blonde Light Of Morning', and even 'Hark,...' are really good to my ears. Try 'Shadow Cosmos' off the 'If you Lived Here...' EP too.

I've not completely given up on the diva.

I dig the new album & have been listening to it quite a bit. I think it's Chris' best work in quite a while, and the CRB is a good band.

Not as into his recent comments, but whatever.

I think it's the best CRB release since their debut, albeit very different to that album.
Some of the tracks have a bit of a Gene Clark vibe, IMO.

That's a glowing endorsement!

It's quite sad when the best that can be said of the new album of one of my musical heroes when I was younger is that it isn't utterly terrible.

Yeah it is kind of sad but then again, most musicians can't really keep up the flame of creativity and truly great music for that long so i'm not really that surprised....

I agree, but the cliff Chris fell off was pretty steep!

He was certainly stumbling towards the cliff by then.
